I’ve known my fair share of addicts as well as recoveries, although many state “once an addict, always an addict”. When you’re addicted to a drug, alcohol, nicotine, or any other substance, your life revolves around it. You’re essentially powerless to your craving for more, for that next fix, hit, inhale, injection, shot, toke.

But what if you’re addicted to something much worse than anything money could buy? What if you’re addicted to¬†something with a pulse? What if you unabashedly and desperately desire someone you once had but no longer can hold, touch, talk to, or love? How long does it take for you to no longer have them in your system? To no longer be haunted by their ghost in your memories, dreams, thoughts, wishes, hopes, or regrets?

When will my soul finally untangle itself from yours? When will I be free of this? You’re in my veins and there’s no rehab, no release. No, I have none of that. All I have is time. There is only time.
